Watching movies is one of the many couple activities that we often do together, whether it is at an indoor cinema, under the stars at an outdoor cinema or in the comfort of our own home, snuggled up under a soft blanket with our hot coco.
We love many genres of movies, but can never turn away from romance or romantic comedies, especially those that have a deeper meaning to the love story on the surface. There’s just so much you can learn about life, relationships and love from watching movies in general, but it is those special few that really inspire and move you inside…leaving you in deep thought and reflection when it’s finished.
This post is a short list of what we think are some of the best movies for couples. These movies will bring you and your special someone closer together, and make you appreciate and reflect on your relationships and life. Have fun, laugh and cry while watching them, and be close to your partner during the movie.
Don’t worry, there are no spoiler alerts below, just a little bit about the movie, how we felt and what we took away from watching it.
About Time (2013)
About Time is a touching story about a young man’s (Tim) search for love, his ability to travel in time and how he grows to appreciate life without the need to use his ability. We follow Tim as he grows and uses his ability to give himself a second chance or do over at certain moments in time. However, what we learn is that in order to really appreciate our life, and our loved ones in it, we need to cut through all the noise and little troubles along the way and take some time out…if only for a moment…to admire the beauty of the world and people surrounding us. When you wake up in the morning…take a moment to admire and appreciate the house you live in. When you drive, walk or ride to work…take a moment to marvel at the scenery along the way. If you treasure everyday as if it was already your second chance at that day, you would not give the time to all the little problems and things troubling you, as this time is precious.
A brilliant movie which will make you laugh, cry, smile and wonder…

The Time Traveler’s Wife (2009)
The Time Traveler’s Wife is a fantastic movie about a man (Henry) who randomly and uncontrollably travels through time. A future version of himself often meets a younger version of his wife (Clare) during his time travels, and one day they meet for the “first time”. From there, their relationship grows and they have to deal with the difficulties of his random disappearances, often weeks at a time. Despite these two characters being destined to be together, you learn about the strength of love, and how they still need to be strong to bring each other through the tough times. We all need to focus on the happy and positive moments to bring your relationships through the difficult ones.
A magical story about fate, life and the strength of love.

Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
The Silver Linings Playbook is a funny and inspiring story about a man (Pat) with bipolar disorder who is trying to get back with his ex-wife, but meets Tiffany, a recent widow, who has problems of her own. As you follow their journey through recovery, you learn to appreciate that there is a ‘silver lining’ in every bad situation, and although life doesn’t always go according to plan, if you keep striving to improve and remain optimistic, you will have a shot at a positive outcome. You should value the people closest to you, and as quoted so elegantly in the film:
“You have to do everything you can, you have to work your hardest, and if you do, if you stay positive, you have a shot at a silver lining.”

The Notebook (2004)
The Notebook is a deeply moving love story about a lower-class young man (Noah) and a high-class young woman (Allie) who fall in love but are ultimately separated by their social differences. You follow their story as they move on through life, but eventually are drawn together again. The movie is full of raw emotions about relationship, love and heart-break, and we learn that it is important to stay true to yourself and follow your heart to love.
