Best Movies for Couples

You can learn about life, relationships and love while watching movies as a couple.

Watching movies is one of the many couple activities that we often do together, whether it is at an indoor cinema, under the stars at an outdoor cinema or in the comfort of our own home, snuggled up under a soft blanket with our hot coco.

We love many genres of movies, but can never turn away from romance or romantic comedies, especially those that have a deeper meaning to the love story on the surface. There’s just so much you can learn about life, relationships and love from watching movies in general, but it is those special few that really inspire and move you inside…leaving you in deep thought and reflection when it’s finished.

This post is a short list of what we think are some of the best movies for couples. These movies will bring you and your special someone closer together, and make you appreciate and reflect on your relationships and life. Have fun, laugh and cry while watching them, and be close to your partner during the movie.

Don’t worry, there are no spoiler alerts below, just a little bit about the movie, how we felt and what we took away from watching it.

About Time (2013)

About Time is a touching movie to watch as a couple, where you learn to appreciate everything around you.About Time is a touching story about a young man’s (Tim) search for love, his ability to travel in time and how he grows to appreciate life without the need to use his ability. We follow Tim as he grows and uses his ability to give himself a second chance or do over at certain moments in time. However, what we learn is that in order to really appreciate our life, and our loved ones in it, we need to cut through all the noise and little troubles along the way and take some time out…if only for a moment…to admire the beauty of the world and people surrounding us. When you wake up in the morning…take a moment to admire and appreciate the house you live in. When you drive, walk or ride to work…take a moment to marvel at the scenery along the way. If you treasure everyday as if it was already your second chance at that day, you would not give the time to all the little problems and things troubling you, as this time is precious.

A brilliant movie which will make you laugh, cry, smile and wonder…

  1. What a great idea for a website! It’s always good to get some expert advice when it comes to planning activities with the lady. I’m gonna check out these couple movie recommendations for sure! Are you going to keep adding newer movies to your list? I think I’ll check out your article on cruises next.

    Thanks,

    Isaiah

    1. Thanks Isaiah appreciate the comment. Watching movies together is one of our favorite past times, so we will definitely be adding more recommendations as we come across good movies for couples. Look forward to reading your thoughts on our Cruises for Young Couples post. We have more on its way!

  2. Thanks for these tips. My fiance and I finished watching all the Sabrina the Teenage Witch seasons and we are wondering what to watch next. We’ve seen The Notebook. Based on your recommendation I’ll suggest to him that we check out “The Time Traveler’s Wife”.

Do you have a list of best tv shows to watch for couples?

    1. Hi Vanessa, thanks! Did you and your fiance like The Notebook?

We haven’t created a list of best tv shows for couples yet, but that sounds like a great idea. We love watching tv shows too!!

  3. Hi Sven,

What can I say but, you have a great taste in movies. 🙂 I can be pretty romantic at times too 😉 and must admit that I have watched most of your list. And the best so far for me will be The Notebook because, it’ll make you believe that everlasting and unconditional love still exists (since it’s based on true events) that, that “til death do us part” really happens sometimes. I bet you’ve watched A Walk To Remember? That’s one of my all-time favorites too. I suppose when it comes for movies for couples, Nicholas Sparks’ collection will be awesome for a movie marathon (although the book version is a lot better).

Perhaps you can make a list of horror movies too? That’ll will be an advantage so she will always be close the whole movie. 😉 Popcorn please!

    Cheers!

    Rock

    1. Hey Rock,

Cheers for that! We actually haven’t seen A Walk to Remember, but looking it up right now, cheers for the recommendation!

These movies definitely make us aspire for long term happiness and love, something we all seek.

The horror movies idea isn’t bad, or even the scary thrillers!

      Cheers… bring on the popcorn!

      Sven.
