Cruises for Young Couples

A panoramic view of a cruise ship while cruising as a couple.

Many young couples have a strong perception that cruising is only suited for the over 50’s. We have to admit, we were no different. But boy, we were so wrong! Our opinion of cruising for young adults changed instantly when we were on vacation in the Aloha State, Hawaii. We were converted immediately and could not stop raving to our friends and family about why young couples should definitely consider cruising as their travel choice.

We wanted to explore the surrounding islands of Hawaii and were strongly advised that the best and most economical way to get around is by cruising on the 7 Day Hawaii, Round-Trip. Hesitant with the idea of cruising at first and being the planners that we are, we decided to do some research and what we found intrigued us! After detailed reading through reviews from various reputable sites, we quickly learnt that many cruise lines have now revamped their image from a more traditional and formal cruising style, to a more modern appeal with plenty of activities for young couples and passengers with young families. We discovered that many modern cruises now offer theme parks and resort like activities (e.g. rock climbing, zip-lining across the deck and water slides!) and much much more fun and action-packed activities to do throughout your entire trip!

My partner and I were immediately sold with the new concept of cruising and decided to give it a go. Over the next couple of days, we booked the 7 day round-trip from Honolulu with Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL)’s Pride of America, and it was the best decision we had made for our trip! My partner and I had the most amazing time exploring Hawaii’s four largest islands, with plenty of time to enjoy onboard activities, entertainment and restaurants, as well as go on land tours, watch the sunrise over the crater and snorkel with wild dolphins. Sounds pretty amazing huh? It was!

The experience has made us realize that there are so many benefits of cruising for young couples like us, and here are some of them to help you choose a cruise as your next holiday!

Value for Money

All taken care of – includes accommodation, travel expenses, all meals (and snacks!), daily activities and entertainment, and often added onboard specials for drinks, specialty dining packages, tours, spending money and/or free WiFi!

Stress Free

You don’t have to worry about driving or catching trains/buses from one place to another in a foreign country. City to city or island to island, the ship does the travelling for you while you relax, eat and enjoy the entertainment. Meals are all prepared for you and available for you all day, and for most of the night (bring on the late night snacks!!!). Laundry can be done too, if requested, what more can you ask for?

Unpack and Pack, Once!

You only have to unpack you clothes in your cabin once, cruise around to all these amazing and different places, and then pack up once at the end of the trip. Literally your hotel room and all its contents moves with you!

Onboard Activities

Many cruises now offer great onboard indoor and outdoor activities for young couples. For example: rock climbing, skydive simulator and surfing simulators, zip-lining across the deck, water slides, ice-skating, live music, bars…and the list goes on!

Relax and Unwind

Many cruises offer great facilities and services for you to enjoy throughout your trip. If you didn’t feel like doing any onboard activities, you can simply relax by the pool or outdoor jacuzzi/hot tub while having a pina colada (or other cocktail of your choice). You could sunbathe on the deck, get a massage or spa treatment…the choices are endless. There are so many ways to enjoy life while cruising, life is bliss!

  1. It sure sounds like cruises have changed over the years. My first and only cruise was over 35 years ago.(Hey I was young then). they did not have near the activities on board as they do now from your description. There were many casinos on board, movie theaters and there were dance classes and of course bingo. Activities back then were geared to an older group. It was a seven day cruise with three stops. There were many activities at each port that you had to pick from. You did have to pay extra for that.
So even though cruises have changed over the years I know from experience it was one of the best vacations I ever had.

    1. Thanks Maureen, yup cruises have definitely been changing over time. Nowadays they are catering more and more for younger families and young couples, which is great as it is an excellent (and very relaxing) way to go on vacation!

  2. Honestly, I’ve never done a cruise before. I am guessing it’s probably the fear of water. But I like the idea of not having to commute from one place to another.

I just got back from a trip to Australia and the amount of time I spend on the road was crazy. It’s so tiring that I don’t really get to enjoy what the nature has to offer.

Things will feel a lot lighter with a cruise cause you basically travel with your hotel, right? Good idea.

    1. Spot on Cathy! You can basically just relax in the pool with a cocktail or get a massage or have a spa, while on route to your next destination. Cruising is definitely a better option than being cramped in a hot car or bus for hours to explore a new place. Our trip with Norwegian Cruise Line on board the Pride of America to various Hawaiian islands was fantastic, not only because of the wonderful service, but also because the ship traveled at night and we simply woke up to a new island each morning – no fuss and happy days!

Honestly, a cruise ship is so huge that we sometimes forget that we are out at sea. We love cruising for so many reasons and hope you get to experience it for yourself some day 🙂
