Sergio Garcia & Martina Hingis
Martina Hingis took tennis world by surprise in the 1990’s when she set many ‘youngest-ever’ records. She became the world number one during 210 weeks and achieved a total of 22 grand slam titles of which there were 5 singles titles. Hingis temporary retired in 2002 after a series of ligament injuries then made a comeback in 2006 to become a champion of doubles and mixed doubles. Hingis was voted Forbes’ top earning female athlete from 1997-2001.
Sergio Garcia was Europe’s challenge to Tiger Woods. Although he never made to the #1 ranking, Garcia was on the Top 10 over 400 weeks. The Spanish golfer won 30 international golf titles, including the 2008 Players Championship and the 2017 Masters. According to Forbes, Garcia has earned over $45M throughoit his career.
Hingis was called as the ‘Black Widow’ because the careers of her former partners and tennis players such as Magnus Norman, Julian Alonso and Ivo Hueberger went south after their broke up. The Swiss Miss and El Nino were popular young sports stars in the 90’s. They were briefly date in 2002 but split in 2003. Garcia’s career didn’t go downhill though. He became the world number 2 after they split.
Adam Scott & Ana Ivanovic
Retired Serbian tennis player Ana Ivanovic was one of the hottest player on tour, making appearance in various magazines like FHM, Vanity Fair, Cosmopolitan, etc. She was voted the #1 female tennis player in the world in 2008 thanks to a runner-up finish in the 2007 French Open, and champion title the following year to catapult to the top of the rankings. Her struggles after 2008 are noticeable and she eventually retired in 2016.
Adam Scott is the first Australian to win a prestigious grand slam Masters Tournament in 2013. He was voted golf’s top ranked player from May to August 2014 due to remarkable achievements of the Players Championships in 2004, the 2011 WGC Bridgestone Invitational and the 2016 WGC-Cadillac Championship.
Ivanovic and Scott were dating in 2009 for 18 months before they split in 2010. They kept in touch and would later come back together in 2011 but split for a final time in 2013.
